Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Holt Shelton II, of Austin, Texas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Madeline Clélie, to Christian Nicholas Hawley, son of Vanessa Hawley and Jim and Gayle Hawley, all of Johnson City.
The bride-elect is a 2005 graduate of Austin High School, Austin, Texas; and a 2009 graduate of Tulane University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in public health.
She was a debutante at the 167th annual Galveston Artillery Club Ball in 2007, and was crowned Queen of the Knights of Momus Mardi Gras in Galveston, Texas, in 2008.
She is a student at The Seminary of the Southwest, Austin, where she is pursuing a master of divinity degree. She is a postulant to the priesthood in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.
Her fiancé is a 1997 graduate of Sullivan South High School, Kingsport; a graduate of University of Notre Dame, where he received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; a graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he received a master of divinity degree; and a graduate of The Seminary of The Southwest, where he received a master of religious arts degree.
He served in the United States Air Force from 2001-2005, when he resigned his commission as captain to pursue a career in ministry. He was ordained an Episcopal priest on Dec. 22, 2013. He is assistant rector at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Knoxville.
He is a grandson of Beatrice Barzetti, Cape Cateret, N.C., and the late Nicholas Barzetti.
The couple plan a private wedding for Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Austin.
