Local law enforcement, hospital report significant drop in synthetic drug cases since raids

Just a few months ago, Johnson City Medical Center emergency room personnel were seeing an average of five patients per day with cases related to the synthetic drugs known as "bath salts."
But in March, law enforcement authorities across the region cracked down on the sale of bath sales and other synthetic substances. As the Tennessee Legislature moves forward with bans on the drugs this week, JCMC doctors and local law enforcement already are reporting a difference in synthetic drug-related cases in the wake of last month's raids and smoke shop closings.
Press Staff Writer Becky Campbell and Assistant News Editor/Online Rex Barber explore the trend in the Wednesday, April 18, edition of Johnson City Press.
