Ex-Surgoinsville alderman, jailer, Santa biker arrested on felony drug charges

ROGERSVILLE — A jailer and former Surgoinsville alderman known for heading a pack of bikers in a Santa suit during a charity run each November was heading to jail Tuesday morning accused of peddling Lortab pills in a Church Hill store parking lot.
Tuesday morning the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office’s Narcotics Unit allegedly seized 1,345 10 milligram Lortab pills and $650 in cash from David Wayne “Big Time” Richards, 51, 422 Church St., Surgoinsville. Richards had been employed as a jailer with the sheriff’s office since August.
Sheriff Ronnie Lawson said about three days ago the HCSO Narcotics Unit received a tip that Richards was allegedly involved in pill trafficking, at which time an investigation led by Chief Deputy Tony Allen was launched.
