Infant not in car seat among two killed in 11-E wreck

GREENEVILLE — Heavy fog and limited visibility were being blamed for a car versus tractor-trailer accident Sunday morning that killed two people in Greene County, including a 4-month-old baby who reportedly was not in a child safety seat.

The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. on Highway 11-E at the Bridge Burners Boulevard intersection near the Mohawk community.

According to a report filed by Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Paul Penley, a 2009 Peterbilt tractor trailer hauling general merchandise for Wal-Mart was traveling on Bridge Burners Boulevard crossing the northbound lanes of 11-E when it was struck in the rear by a northbound 2003 Lexus RX3 before the trailer had cleared the intersection.
