UNICOI — A Unicoi County woman was killed and four people were injured in a Tuesday evening head-on collision that occurred on Sciota Road in the Unicoi area.
According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, one of the drivers involved, Tabetha M. Grindstaff, 29, of Unicoi, was killed in the crash. The three people in her vehicle, Charles and Heather Grindstaff, also of Unicoi, and a third unnamed person in the vehicle were injured.
The driver of the other vehicle involved, Randy L. Julian, 31, of Elizabethton, was also injured in the collision, according to the THP.
According to the THP report, the Chevy S10 Blazer being driven by Julian was traveling eastbound on Sciota Road, while the Chevy Camaro driven by Grindstaff was traveling westbound. The report said Julian’s vehicle crossed the center line of the road and Grindstaff ran off the roadway to attempt to avoid the collision.
The report said the two vehicles hit head-on near the shoulder of the road on the eastbound side.
The collision occurred at approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the report. All parties involved were wearing safety belts at the time of the collision, the report said.
Lt. Jarrett Ramsey with the Fall Branch District of the THP said Trooper Jim Jackson was the investigating officer. Ramsey said Jackson’s report is preliminary and the incident is still under investigation.
According to the report, charges are pending.
