ELIZABETHTON — Step by step the day is drawing nearer when the new 296-bed Carter County Jail will be occupied. Nearly all the items have been checked off the punch list and final agreements have been reached with contractor Blaine Construction and the city of Elizabethton. Employees have been hired for the guard positions.
Chief Deputy Ron Street of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department said a lot of work has gone into the final stages of preparing the jail for its opening.
“We have gone through three punch lists,” Street said. A punch list is a compilation of small tasks that need to be completed or corrected by the contractor before the project is deemed completed.
“It’s a humongous building,” Street said, “and there are a lot of things to check.”
