UT student killed, another injured in Cancun accident

KNOXVILLE — A University of Tennessee student was killed Monday and another student injured in a moped accident near Cancun, Mexico.

Kevin Paul Davis, a marketing junior from Nashville, died. Audry Gayle McInturff, a freshman who is also from Nashville, was injured in the accident, according to a university spokeswoman.

It's unclear how the accident occurred. UT students are on spring break this week.

Davis is a 2009 graduate of Father Ryan High School in Nashville and the son of the principal, Paul Davis, and his wife Teresa, according to The Tennessean.

According to The Tennessean, Davis may have been on a cruise that entered port. He may have then rented the moped, according to Father Ryan Athletic Director Pat Simpson.

Davis played wide receiver for Ryan and was one of the faster players on the team, Simpson said.

"He's one of those kids if you had a daughter, you wouldn't mind her going out with him,'' Simpson told the Tennessean. "Smart, never in trouble, a good athlete. I hate it for our principal.''

Father Ryan held a mass at school for faculty this morning.

The school cancelled classes today following news of the accident.
