Bluff City pursuing changes to charter, but mayor opposed

BLUFF CITY — A proposal for changes to the town’s municipal charter, approved last week by the Bluff City Board of Mayor and Aldermen, will soon be signed and on its way to state lawmakers in Nashville.

At a called meeting Tuesday, the BMA authorized Vice Mayor Lon Gene Leonard to sign the document on behalf of the town — in answer to Mayor Irene Wells’ refusal to do so.

The proposed charter changes will only become effective if first approved by the Tennessee General Assembly and then approved by a two-thirds majority of the BMA.
