Elizabethton police bust meth lab

ELIZABETHTON — Acting on a tip, officers of the Elizabethton Police Department discovered a clandestine methamphetamine lab in a residence at 1115 Bluefield Ave. on Thursday afternoon.
Capt. Joy Markland said officers were sent to the home after the tip indicated there were drug sales and possible drug manufacturing going on at the location.
“When the resident opened the door for the officers they noticed a strong chemical smell,” Markland said. After obtaining a consent to search the house, Markland said the officers conducted an initial sweep and discovered components of a one-pot or shake-and-bake method of manufacturing methamphetamine.
There were two individuals inside the house at the time the officers arrived.
Markland said the investigation is continuing and arrests are pending.
Elements from the Elizabethton Police Department, the Elizabethton Fire Department, the Carter County Rescue Squad, the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, and other agencies assisted in the investigation, the neutralization and cleanup of the area.
She said the Tennessee Methamphetamine Task Force was called to assist in disposing of the toxic materials.
