BLOUNTVILLE — A 17-year-old and a man in his 60's have been hospitalized following a head-on collision in Blountville, with police saying the juvenile may have caused the Tuesday wreck while racing another vehicle.
The crash occurred at 2:34 p.m. on Highway 394. It forced the Tennessee Highway Patrol to close a section of 394, from just south of Franklin Drive to Blountville Boulevard beside Food City, for more than two and a half hours.
According to Dalya Qualls, public information officer for the Tennessee Department of Safety, two cars driven by 17-year-old males were drag racing. Witnesses told police that one of the cars, a Honda Accord, swerved into oncoming lanes of traffic to pass a slower vehicle — striking an innocent Chevrolet pickup head on.
