Update: ETSU students tied up, robbed in campus apartment, spokesman says

Two East Tennessee State University students were bound and robbed at gunpoint in their campus apartment Tuesday night, according to a school spokesman.
University spokesman Joe Smith said ETSU Public Safety received a panic alarm from Buccaneer Ridge, Building O, around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday and found two students there had been bound and robbed.
The students said three men had broken into their apartment brandishing two pistols. The students told officers they were tied up at this point and robbed of several items, including debit and credit cards and a laptop computer, Smith said in an emailed statement.
The intruders left and the students untied themselves and reached the panic alarm.
The victims were not injured, Smith said in the statement.
ETSU was working with Johnson City police to search for the robbers, who were described as black and between the ages of 18 and 21. The robbers were wearing hooded sweatshirts and black clothing.
The school sent out an alert regarding the assault and robbery via text message and email around 11 p.m. Tuesday. The campus community was urged to take the necessary precautions to stay safe.
