Two accused of lying to police about car theft after crash

Johnson City police recently charged two people with faking reports about a stolen vehicle.
Katie D. Arnett, 21, 100 Highland Avenue, Erwin, and Rusty J. Webb, 25, 605 Carter Sells Road, No. 205, were each charged with filing a false report.
Arnett and Webb told police on Jan. 22 that Arnett's vehicle had been stolen from the lawn at Webb's residence sometime during the night, police said in a news release.
Arnett was not aware, however, that police already had found the vehicle earlier that day at the intersection of Rolling Hills Drive and Buffalo Road, where it had been crashed. Police said Arnett tried to cover up Arnett's involvement in the crash by reporting the vehicle as stolen.
On Thursday, police arrested Arnett and Webb. Sessions Court appearances have been set for Feb. 23.
