Injury avoided in train vs. car crash

Serious injury was avoided early Saturday morning when a Norfolk Southern Railway train traveling through downtown Johnson City struck a car that had become stuck on the tracks.
Dispatchers with 911 said the accident occurred at 3:27 a.m.
Johnson City Police Department Patrol Officer Mike Dunn said the car appeared to have either died or stalled along the tracks before the train began nearing downtown.
There was no one in the car at the time of the crash.
Dunn said after the car was struck by the train, it was carried from the railroad crossing at the intersection of Buffalo and West Market streets until the train came to a stop near Sevier Street.
A number of intersections at railroad crossings throughout downtown remained blocked by the train as officials worked to clear the scene.
Further details were not available early Saturday morning.
