Here is a list of schedule changes for next Monday’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday (Jan. 16).
Financial Institutions: Most banks and credit unions will be closed.
Washington County: All offices at the Washington County Courthouse and George Jaynes Justice Center, both the Jonesborough, and the county offices on Marketplace Boulevard in Johnson City, will be closed on on Monday.
Jonesborough: All town offices will be closed on Monday. Garbage and recycling services will be on their regular schedules.
ETSU: All university offices will be closed on Monday and classes will not be held.
Elizabethton: All city offices will be closed on Monday. Garbage collection will be one day late through the week with Thursday and Friday routes being collected on Friday.
Carter County: All offices at the Carter County Courthouse and Justice Center will be closed on Monday.
Erwin: All city offices will be closed on Monday.
Unicoi County: All offices at the Unicoi County Courthouse will be will be closed on Saturday and Monday.
Mountain City: All city offices will be closed on Monday.
Johnson County: All offices at the Johnson County Courthouse will be closed on Monday. The Johnson County Solid Waste Transfer Station also will be closed.
The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will be observed locally with the following events:
Wednesday through Jan. 16: Carver Rec Center will host the MLK Basketball Classic. Registration is ongoing and can be made by calling Herb Greenlee at 747-1425 or 461-8831.
Jan. 14: the MLK Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by the Langston Heritage Group, will take place at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 225 Wesley St., beginning at 9 a.m. Tickets are $12. For information or tickets, call Angie Smith-Harris at 929-3084 or Wayne Robertson at 232-6219.
Jan. 15: at 5 p.m., First Presbyterian Worship Center, 105 S. Boone St., will hold an MLK worship service. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. C.H. Charlton.
Jan. 16: a children’s MLK program will take place at Carver Rec Center at 9 a.m., with story time, arts and crafts, drumming and other events. For registration and more information, call Tamera Foster at 461-8832.
Jan. 16: MLK Blood Drive at the Carver Rec Center, hosted by the Johnson City/Washington County NAACP and the American Red Cross, will take place from noon until 5 p.m. For information or registration, call Lorraine Washington at 943-9162.
Jan. 16: Carver Rec Center will hold its MLK Recognition Dinner, to begin at 6 p.m. RSVP to Greenlee at 461-8831.
