Police report halting burglary in progress

ERWIN — An alleged burglary in progress was halted by Erwin police Wednesday, leading to the arrest of a city woman on burglary and drug charges.
Ashia Marie Nadeau, 24, 724 Maple Ave., was charged with aggravated burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of legend drugs.
According to an arrest report written by Erwin Police Chief Regan Tilson, police received a report of a suspicious person at 720 Maple. Once Tilson arrived at the scene and approached the back door of the residence, he saw Nadeau with her arm inside the back door, according to the arrest report. The report also states glass had been broken out of the door and Nadeau was seen standing in broken glass.
When questioned at the scene, Nadeau stated someone in the house “owed her money,” and she admitted breaking the glass out of the door, according to the report.
Tilson contacted the homeowner, also the complainant, who told police he was familiar with Nadeau but denied owing her money, according to the report.
The arrest report states that during a search, a hypodermic needle and two straws with a “powdery residue in them” were found in Nadeau’s purse. Nadeau also had in her possession a small pill box containing three phenyelphrine pills, a legend drug requiring a prescription, according to the report. Nadeau was unable to produce a prescription for the pills.
Nadeau was arrested and transported to the Unicoi County Jail. She was arraigned Thursday in Unicoi County Sessions Court, where she was given a $25,000 corporate bond. Nadeau is scheduled to appear back in Sessions Court on Feb. 2.
