A Johnson City man arrested Friday on multiple charges of raping an 8-year-old boy was arraigned on the charges Tuesday in Washington County Sessions Court.
Kenneth John Wispell, 20, 907 Antioch Road, Apt. 49, is charged with five counts of rape of a child.
Police said in a news release issued Friday that Wispell was charged with the offenses after he told officers who were investigating a report of child sexual abuse that he had engaged in sexual activity with the boy.
In an arraignment hearing on Tuesday, retired Sessions Court Judge John Kiener, who is hearing cases this week during the absence of another judge, appointed the Public Defender’s office to represent Wispell and scheduled the case for a preliminary hearing Thursday.
Wispell remained in custody Tuesday at the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of $250,000 property bond or $125,000 surety company bond set by Kiener on Tuesday.
