Scott County death investigated as murder

Officials are releasing little information on the Christmas Day discovery of a Southwest Virginia man dead in his home, with Scott County's head prosecutor confirming only that the incident is being treated as a homicide.

The body of Greg Hale, 49, was found Sunday in his residence, 302 Addington Frame Road, Nickelsville, Va. Scott County Commonwealth's Attorney Marcus McClung said the discovery was made by members of Hale's family.

Citing an ongoing criminal investigation, McClung declined to comment on the last time Hale was known to be alive, whether there were signs of trauma on his body, if a weapon appears to have been used, or if items were stolen from his home. As of Tuesday afternoon calls to the Scott County Sheriff's Office from the Times-News had not been returned.
