Clerk reports theft of ‘Jesus Rocks’ tag

December 20th, 2011 10:15 pm by Staff Reports

HAMPTON — A clerk at the Quick Stop convenience store told Carter County deputies that a shoplifter attempted to steal several candy bars, chewing gum and a “Jesus Rocks” tag Sunday morning.
The clerk told Deputy Ashley McCall that a man wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans came into the store at 3:15 a.m. and started putting items in his pocket. When he tried to leave, she told him to empty his pockets. She said the man’s pockets contained the “Jesus Rocks” tag valued at $2.99 and the candy and gum, which came to a total of $8.45.
The clerk said the man continued to leave the store and took her wet floor sign with him, so she followed him outside. She said the wet floor sign was then thrown from the window of the man’s green Ford Explorer as it sped off.
