Rogersville woman charged with murder of 3-year-old

ROGERSVILLE — Amber Beth Gibson, 25, of Rogersville, has been charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated child abuse in the July beating death of 3-year-old Emily Madison Barnard in Mooresburg, Tenn.

Hawkins County Sheriff Ronnie Lawson announced during a press conference Tuesday morning that Gibson was named in a sealed Hawkins County grand jury indictment Monday, which was subsequently served. The indictment was based on autopsy results that the Sheriff's Office received on Friday.

According to a source in the court house, Hawkins County Criminal Court Judge John Dugger issued a gag order just moments before Lawson's press conference was about to begin. Lawson stated during the press conference that he is now prohibited from discussing details of the investigation or the autopsy. The gag order was requested by public defender's office.
