First Presbyterian undergoing renovation

First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City is undergoing the first phase of its $900,000 capital campaign, which will seek to renovate and expand the historic church.
The first phase, which is totaled at about $250,000, according to member Gary Arner, is partially being used to renovate the steps on the Boone Street side of the church that have deteriorated over time.
Other improvements include a restoration of the church steeple, expansions to a section of the roof, addition of a lights to the steeple, safety upgrades inside the church and general upkeep on portions of the exterior of the building.
The first phase is expected to be concluded by early January.
