We congratulate Brian Noland on being named the eighth president of East Tennessee State University. He will take over those duties next month, from Dr. Paul Stanton Jr., who has seen the regional university grow and prosper during his 15 years as president.
It will be Noland’s job to see that the university continues to succeed in ways we can’t fully understand or appreciate today.
Who might have thought more than a decade ago that ETSU would establish a pharmacy program?
It took vision and tenacity on the part of Stanton and community leaders to make it happen.
Those are also the two qualities that we hope to see from Noland: Vision and tenacity. Vision to develop the academic programs and community projects that benefit both students and the region, and the tenacity to fight for those programs in Nashville.
