Downtown Rogersville reopened after dynamite scare

December 2nd, 2011 2:13 pm by Jeff Bobo

ROGERSVILLE — Downtown Rogersville was evacuated this morning due to dynamite, deemed to be unstable, found in a construction business office.

Rogersville Police Department Chief Doug Nelson said workers went into the Lyons Construction office on Church Street and found the dynamite. It's not known who placed the dynamite in the office, but the workers immediately noticed it to be sweating.

"Those guys work with dynamite and they said it was unstable," Nelson said. "The Kingsport bomb squad just arrived (at 11:30 a.m.) and they told us to evacuate every building within 100 yards.
