Kingsport man charged with attempted murder enters plea, to be released next month

BLOUNTVILLE — A Kingsport man who pleaded guilty to attempted murder for stabbing a man who had been drinking with him will be released from jail on Dec. 10 to spend eight years on probation.

Frank Amanuel Copas, 47, 2216 Vincent Lane, Kingsport, was ordered to remain jailed until Dec. 10 after he entered an Alford, or best-interest, plea of guilty to attempted second-degree murder Tuesday in Sullivan County Criminal Court. He will then be released to begin serving eight years on supervised probation.

Copas’ sentence included time served. He had been incarcerated since the Feb. 6, 2010, incident at 2216 Vincent Lane.
