ELIZABETHTON — An investigation by the Elizabethton Police Department into complaints of theft of prescription drugs has led to the arrest of a Walgreens employee Monday.
Jared Angel, 24, Long Branch Drive, Erwin, was arrested by Officer Paul Morell on charges of obtaining narcotics by fraud and theft under $500. Bond was set at $5,250.
Investigator Kirk Carrier said the complaint was received from Walgreens on Nov. 15. The store said Angel had been stealing prescription medication from the pharmacy between Aug. 8 and Nov. 15.
Carrier said the investigation found that Angel “used deception and subterfuge to obtain controlled substances and removed items from the store without paying or permission.”
Angel is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Jan 9.
