Jury selection in Kingsport capital murder trial halted

November 18th, 2011 2:19 pm by Kacie Breeding

BLOUNTVILLE — The process of picking a jury for the double-murder trial of Leslie Allen Ware Jr. ceased on Tuesday and will not resume until Jan. 17, 2012. That’s the date Sullivan County Circuit Judge Jerry Beck continued Ware’s trial to last week.

Since Oct. 31, the original start date for the trial, court officials said more than 260 prospective jurors have reported to the courthouse for individual questioning about their ability to serve. By the end of what marked the 11th day of such questioning (the courthouse was closed Nov. 11), 81 prospective jurors had been selected to return, according to Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus.

Ware’s many charges include two counts of premeditated first-degree murder and felony murder in connection with the Nov. 18, 2005, robbery and execution-style shooting deaths of Jeffrin Nolan and Terrance Alexander inside the former Solé candle shop on Myrtle Street in Kingsport, owned by Nolan.
