BLOUNTVILLE — One of three capital case attorneys for the state of Tennessee has been in Sullivan County Circuit Court this week for a Kingsport double-murder suspect’s capital murder trial.
The trial of Leslie Allen Ware Jr., 32, began with jury selection on Monday. Over the past several days, Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus, Deputy District Attorney Gene Perrin, and Ware’s attorneys — Don Spurrell and Steve Finney — have been questioning prospective jurors to gauge their ability to give Ware a fair trial, and, if he’s convicted, to consider all three sentencing options — death, life without parole, or life with the possibility of parole after 51 years.
During this still ongoing process a fifth attorney has been seated near Judge Jerry Beck, occasionally rising to either pass him a slip of paper or to whisper to him. She is Capital Case Attorney Susan Jones.
