Sword attack suspect refused ankle monitor required for his convicted sex offender supervision

ROGERSVILLE — The Hawkins County man who was shot in the chest Tuesday after allegedly lunging at deputies with a sword remained listed in critical condition Wednesday at Holston Valley Medical Center.

Brandon Lee Laferty, 26, 298 Dykes Road, Church Hill, could have avoided the entire situation, however, if he had followed the requirements of his convicted sex offender supervision for life status.

Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to Laferty’s home Tuesday shortly after noon to serve an arrest warrant for violation of probation from Sullivan County.
