OSHA classes offered by local association

November 1st, 2011 3:10 pm by Staff Report

The Johnson City Area Home Builders Association will be offering a 3-hour OSHA Fall Protection Class and a 10-hour OSHA Residential Construction Safety Course on Nov. 10-11 at the ITT Technical Institute in Boones Creek. This will be the last chance to take either of these classes locally in 2011.
Beginning Jan. 1, TOSHA reps will begin to actively cover the entire Tri-Cities area looking at residential construction and renovations and issuing citations starting at $3,000. The courses being offered will help attendees understand what is necessary to be compliant with the new regulations that were passed earlier this year and will help to identify what is rumor and what is fact. A TOSHA representative will be available to answer any questions.
The 3-Hour OSHA Fall Protection Class will be held on Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. The cost for this class will be $45 and this will include the OSHA Fall Protection Handbook. Advance registration and pre-payment are required. This class is recommended for everyone who works above 6 feet including framers, roofers, plumbers, electricians, gutter installers, etc.
The 10-Hour OSHA Residential Construction Safety Course will be held on Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both days are necessary to complete the 10 hours of training. The cost for this 2-day class will be $160 and will include all materials needed. Advance registration and pre-payment are required. This course will offer an overview of OSHA’s construction safety and health standards as well as hazard recognition and prevention. This course covers areas specific to construction such as: Personal Protective Equipment, Ladders and Scaffolding, Electrical Hazards, Hand and Power tools, Trenches and Excavations, and others.
These courses are open to everyone and membership in an HBA is not required to register. Contact the office at 282-2561 to register by phone.
