Hawkins County monkey owner gets eight years in meth lab case

ROGERSVILLE — The Hawkins County man whose unusual combination of a meth lab and pet monkeys garnered national attention including two punch lines on a “Tonight Show” monologue was sentenced to eight years in prison Friday.

William Alan Givan, 41, 139 Grassy Valley Road, Whitesburg, pleaded guilty Friday before Judge John Dugger to charges including manufacturing meth, maintaining a dwelling for drug use, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Aside from the eight-year prison sentence, Givan was also fined a total of $3,025. He will be eligible for parole after serving 30 percent of his sentence.
