Update: Man charged with 3 counts attempted murder in Kingsport apartment shootings

KINGSPORT — A man was in custody after allegedly shooting his former girlfriend and her mother at a Kingsport apartment Monday afternoon.
Kingsport police arrested David Bruce Cook, 39, of 1017 W. Stone Drive, Room 407, Kingsport, on three charges of attempted murder and especially aggravated burglary. He is alleged to have shot Misty Dawn Martinez and her mother, Cathy Ann Inman, at apartment B-12, model City Apartments, on Stonegate Drive.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. According to Kingsport police, Cook was located shortly after the shooting in the area, and taken into custody. Martinez and Inman each suffered gunshot wounds to the lower torso.
Police said Cook is alleged to have forced open the apartment door and once inside, shot Inman. Martinez ran toward a back room where her 8-month-old son was located and was followed by Cook, who continued shooting toward her.
