KINGSPORT — The alleged shoplifting of tools and a toothbrush — with a total estimated value of $93 — has landed a Johnson City man in jail on multiple charges, as Kingsport police say he fled pursuing officers at 100 mph before crashing his car.

Mohammad S. Babamir, 23, of 3800 Marbleton Road, apartment 23, was apprehend shortly before 2 p.m. Saturday. His 1995 Honda Prelude was reportedly using the shoulder of Fort Henry Drive to pass slower vehicles when it struck a curb and spun into oncoming traffic.

No other vehicles were involved in the wreck, which reportedly caused disabling damage to Babamir's car. A juvenile female was a passenger in the Honda at the time of the incident, according to Kingsport police, but faces no charges.
