- Oct. 8, A joint hike with the Greenville City Hiking club. An 8.5-mile strenuous loop hike starting at the Margarette Falls trailhead to the remnants of the Kennedy Cabin on the Bullen Hollow, Green Mountain and Reynolds Ridge Trail, then another 3 miles at the end of the hike to Margarette Falls. Leave the Jonesborough Post Office at 8 a.m. Leader, Lamar Adcox, 234-0296 or 823-1768.
- Oct. 15, An 11 mile Smokies hike with Joy — we will walk on newly worked trail that has many small waterfalls. The description is that it is a “peculiarly wild area of the park.” Some may continue the 3.6 miles to the Hughes Ridge Trail to Chasteen and Bradley Fork until they reach the Smokemont campground. Leave the Jonesborough Post Office at 7 a.m. Leader, Joy Cook, 676-6490.
- Oct. 22, Strenuous 9- to 11- mile hike on Roan Mountain Starting at Hughes Gap on the AT to Carvers Gap, then down the historic Hack Line Road trail to its end near Highway 143 down the mountain. Patrick Wright has offered the use of his cabin near Hughes Gap for a potluck get-together after the hike for those interested; contact the leader for details. Leave Long John Silver’s at 8 a.m. or call leader Joel Zabel at 926-3587 if you would like to be met at Food City in Elizabethton at 8:20.
- Oct. 29, Strenuous 11-mile hike around Flattop Mountain. Starting from Spivey Gap, we will make a loop using the AT, closed forest service roads and Pisgah National Forest trails. Meet at Long John Silver’s at 8 a.m. Call the leader Joel Zabel at 926-3587 if you would like to be met at McDonald’s in Erwin at 8:15 a.m.
