Hawkins family believes dog's shooting was payback

September 30th, 2011 6:56 am by Jeff Bobo

MOORESBURG — A Hawkins County family believes the shooting of their 10-pound Chihuahua on their front porch Monday evening was an attempt to coerce them into dropping felony reckless endangerment charges against a neighbor.

Sarah Mitchell, of County Line Road, Mooresburg, told the Times-News Thursday she and her husband, William Mitchell, appeared in Hawkins County Sessions Court last month as victims in the felony reckless endangerment case against a neighbor who lives two doors down. She said the neighbor’s attorney asked them to agree to a misdemeanor plea agreement, but they refused.

The case was continued and they are scheduled to appear in Sessions Court again on Nov. 10.
