KINGSPORT — Kingsport emergency responders and residents of Green Lake Drive were shaking their heads in disbelief at the scene of a Thursday afternoon wreck — not only because no one was injured, but because a tractor trailer managed to exit I-81 and travel hundreds of yards before crashing into a home.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m., with the tractor trailer leaving interstate just north of exit 59. Though the truck driver has reportedly told police he "blacked out" and doesn't know what happened next, a trail of debris and tire tracks clearly illustrates his path from interstate.
The northbound tractor trailer exited the right side of the roadway, rumbled down and back up a deep culvert, then through a fence and across Green Lake Drive. From there it traveled through a section of wood rail fencing and into the yard of a residence, splitting trees and leaving a wake of broken exhaust pipes and mirrors.
