ELIZABETHTON — A Carter County man told investigators he was stabbed by his estranged wife during a domestic disturbance Wednesday night.
Edward Zane Church, 58, 1331 Rittertown Road, Hampton, was stabbed in his left front shoulder around 8:15 p.m. He told Deputy Tim Matthews of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department his wife, Denita Whitehead, had come to the house he was visiting and started arguing with him. He said she grabbed a kitchen knife and attempted to stab him with it.
Church said he grabbed the knife by the blade and took it away from her, but she grabbed another knife and stabbed in his left front shoulder. Church said Whitehead then got in her vehicle and left the scene. The Sheriff’s Department had not yet located Whitehead as of 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
The incident took place at the residence of Sam Bailey at 354 Stout Hollow Road, Hampton. Officers responded to that address after receiving the 911 call. Matthews said he found Church lying on a couch with what appeared to be a puncture wound to his left shoulder. An ambulance was sent to the house once the area was secured.
