TUNICA, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say one person has been taken to a hospital by helicopter after an Amtrak train hit a car in north Mississippi.
Tunica County spokesman Larry Liddell says the collision happened Tuesday morning at the intersection of Pritchard Road and Mississippi Highway 3.
Liddell said one person was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He did not know that person's condition.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said the train left Chicago on Monday night and was headed to New Orleans when it hit a vehicle that was "obstructing the track."
Magliari said there were no injuries aboard the train and it would continue to its destination when authorities allowed it to leave the scene.
Tunica County is a farming community and casino haven on the Mississippi River.
