Man charged with brother’s stabbing

September 20th, 2011 11:31 pm by John Thompson

ELIZABETHTON — One brother was rushed to Johnson City Medical Center with a non-life-threatening stab wound Tuesday morning and another brother was taken to the Carter County Jail following a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of Broad Street.
Neal Smith, 47, was arrested following an investigation by the Elizabethton Police Department. He was charged with aggravated domestic assault. He is scheduled to answer the charge in Sessions Court on Sept. 27 at 9 a.m.
Capt. Mike Merritt, of the Criminal Investigations Division, said Smith’s brother, Calvin Smith, had told the first officers on the scene that Neal Smith had stabbed him. The wound was to the left side of his back.
Other officers were notified and Neal Smith was spotted as he was driving southbound a few blocks away on North Sycamore Street. Officers stopped him in front of the Criminal Investigations Division headquarters at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library.
Smith was taken from his pickup truck for questioning and the truck was hauled away by a tow truck. As officers began checking for evidence at the scene of the stabbing, other officers were at the scene where the truck was stopped.
