Police: High-speed trip through Elizabethton results in charges

September 20th, 2011 5:24 pm by Staff Report

ELIZABETHTON — A man was arrested shortly before midnight Saturday after police said he attempted to evade arrest on traffic charges.
Vincent Andrew Redd, 26, 107 Church St., was charged with evading arrest, reckless driving and speeding. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Sept. 27.
Patrolman Douglas Combs of the Elizabethton Police Department said he was patrolling northbound on Watauga Avenue when he saw a Jeep Cherokee coming toward him at high speed. He said radar confirmed the speed of the vehicle to be 53 mph in a 25 mph zone.
Combs activated his blue lights and attempted to turn around as the Jeep passed him. He said the Jeep's driver disregarded his emergency equipment and continued accelerating on Watauga Avenue. Combs saw the vehicle make a high-speed turn onto Church Street, which caused the tires to lose traction.
Combs said he found the Jeep parked in back of the residence at 107 Church Street and found Redd inside the house. He said Redd admitted to driving the vehicle.
