Police: Old Elizabethton Highway crash likely caused by medical problem

September 14th, 2011 2:09 pm by Staff Report

ELIZABETHTON — A single vehicle accident on Tenn. Highway 91 near Happy Valley Memorial Park on Tuesday was believed to be the result of a medical problem.
The Elizabethton Police Department reported that a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina driven by Wesley Todd Osborne, 45, 2347 Dave Buck Road, Johnson City was traveling east when the car began to veer off the road to the right. The car struck a guard rail, which caused the car to flip onto its roof.
Officer James Sexton said Osborne was trapped in the car. He was extricated by the Carter County Emergency and Rescue Squad and transported to the Johnson City Medical Center. Osborne was the only occupant in the car.
Sexton said Osborne seemed confused and could not give an explanation about what happened. A witness gave information to the police about the crash. A member of Osborne’s family said he suffered from epilepsy.
