Elizabethton police chase results in arrest, multiple charges

September 9th, 2011 11:58 am by Staff Report

ELIZABETHTON — A man who reportedly tried to run from police early Thursday morning was arrested on several charges by Officer Shane Darling of the Elizabethton Police Department.

Jose Mayse, 22, 283 Old Railroad Grade Road, Roan Mountain, was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, evading arrest and public intoxication.

Darling responded to a call on Cherry Street from Kelly Reece, who said a man in a red shirt had been in her vehicle. Darling looked and saw a man running toward South Second Street.

Darling got in his cruiser and headed for the area he saw the man. He ordered the man to stop, but said the man continued running north, through a yard on Maple Street, crossed a couple of fences and headed toward Stuart Drive.

Darling said he caught up to the man as he was attempting to crawl under a porch at 406 Stuart Drive. He then took the man back to Cherry Street, where he said Reece identified him as Mayse and said he had been visiting her inside her residence. She said he had a case of beer with him. The case was found along the route Mayse had run, Darling said.

Mayse is scheduled to answer the charges in Sessions Court on Sept. 26.
