State troopers were still looking Wednesday for the hit-and-run driver who struck a Gray bicyclist in a fatal crash involving several vehicles late Tuesday night on Tenn. Highway 36.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that Daniel P. Perkey, 36, Watertank Road, Gray, was killed as he bicycled on Tenn. 36 near Orchard Drive about 10 p.m. Tuesday when a vehicle struck him and left the scene. As Perkey lay in the road, a second vehicle, a sport utility vehicle, ran over him.
The hit-and-run driver was traveling south on Tenn. 36 when it topped a hill and skidded into Perkey, the THP said.
The SUV, a 2002 Kia Sorento driven by Roberta C. Myron, 58, Wiltshire Drive, Gray, was traveling north when it ran over Perkey.
A third vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Camry driven by Kaitlin Harmon, 20, Chickees Street, Johnson City, was traveling south and ran over Perkey’s bicycle.
The THP reported that Perkey’s bicycle had no reflectors or lights and Perkey was not wearing reflective clothing.
