Johnson City police: Fake hitchhiker carjacking report results in 2 arrests

September 5th, 2011 7:04 am by Staff Report

Johnson City police arrested two men Sunday on charges that they faked a carjacking report after leaving the scene of a crash.
Jimmie Lee Enoch, 46, 182 Cedar Creek Road No. 2, Gray, and Jeffrey Lynn Trapp, 57, 1202 Reperin Road, Coeburn, Va., reported that their vehicle had been stolen near the intersection Highland Road and Whitney Street, police said in a news release.
The men told police the vehicle was stolen by hitchhikers they had just picked up, police said, but the investigation revealed Enoch had wrecked the car near West Main Street and West Watauga Avenue and had fled the scene. Witnesses at the crash scene identified Enoch and Trapp.
Enoch was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and false reporting. Trapp was charged with aiding/abetting a false report.
Both men were jailed in the Washington County Detention Center pending Sessions Court appearances Tuesday. Enoch's bond was $6,000, and Trapp's was $10,000.
