MARYVILLE – A 49-year-old Maryville man is in police custody after he allegedly made his wife strip her clothes off, tied her to a picnic table, swatted her with a stick and marched her naked down the street.

Scott Lynn Hatcher, 49, Acorn Way, Maryville, was being held in lieu of a $101,000 bond on charges of aggravated kidnapping and domestic violence with assault. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Sept. 8 and Sept. 9 hearings in Blount County General Sessions Court.

According to a Blount County Sheriff’s Office report:

A deputy responded to a Dixon Road residence at about 8 p.m. Tuesday to a report of an indecent exposure. Upon his arrival, the deputy noticed Hatcher’s truck parked in the road and advised Hatcher he would have to move the vehicle. After he did so, Hatcher then began arguing with another man at his residence.

When the deputy inquired about the argument, both men evaded the question before a 54-year-old woman living at the home told the deputy to look behind the house. He then found Hatcher’s wife wrapped in a blanket in the back yard. The 49-year-old was naked beneath the blanket and had obscenities written all over her face, arms and the front of her body.

She told the deputy that her husband had forced her to take off her clothes prior to tying her face up to a picnic table. She said he secured her arms and legs to each corner of the table and began swatting her with a switch. He then untied her arms and forced her to write a note stating that she had been intimate with his brother before securing her again to the picnic table.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the investigation is ongoing. Additional charges could later be filed against Hatcher, who also reportedly took pictures of his wife during the incident and threatened to kill her. He also allegedly intended to take her to a church and tie her to a cross.

The victim declined medical attention at the scene.
