GATE CITY, Va. — An alleged child predator was arrested in Scott County this week after local and state authorities conducted an undercover operation using social media and text messaging that was reminiscent of the television show “To Catch a Predator.”

Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Marcus McClung said Danny Ray Gibson, 33, Hiltons, was charged with two counts of attempting to contact a minor over an electronic device with lascivious intent after a weeklong investigation by special agents with the Virginia State Police and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office led to his arrest.

Attempting to contact a minor with lascivious intent is considered a Class 5 felony and carries a 10-year prison sentence. McClung said additional charges are likely to be filed against Gibson.
