BLOUNTVILLE — A Gate City, Va., man who attempted to hire a hitwoman to kill his cousin amid an estate dispute in July 2008 has been sentenced to 11 years in prison. The sentence requires 30 percent service before he will be eligible for parole consideration.

George Randall Thacker, 56, 9984 Yuma Road, was convicted of solicitation to commit first-degree murder, a Class B felony, following a jury trial in Sullivan County Criminal Court in July.

In sentencing Thacker to just under the 12-year maximum allowable for a first-time offender, Judge Robert Montgomery expressed concern that Thacker had attempted to have someone killed, "for financial reasons."
