CHURCH HILL — A woman who rear-ended a Hawkins County school bus Tuesday while it was letting students out in Church Hill has been charged with DUI (prescription medication) among other charges.
The accident occurred on Silver Lake Road about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday as bus driver Regina Britton was conducting her normal afternoon bus route. At the time, there were 21 students on the bus ranging in age from 10 to 17 years old. Britton had been traveling north on Silver Lake Road and then came to a stop just south of Silver Lake Mobile Estates and activated the flashing lights and bus stop sign.
One student had exited the bus and was crossing the roadway and another student was exiting the bus when the bus was struck from behind. No injuries were reported.
