BRISTOL, Va. — A Centerville man who allegedly waved a firearm at another man during a fit of road rage Thursday morning was arrested, according to a Bristol (Va.) Police Department news release.
Around 7:30 a.m., a Meadowview man was traveling south on Interstate 81 on his way to a vehicle crash involving his wife on Gate City Highway near the Bristol Mall. While driving, the unidentified man drew the ire of another driver, who was later identified as James Robert Barrett, 45, Centerville, near Exit 1, police said.
Barrett, who was driving a Mercedes sport utility vehicle, reportedly brandished a handgun.
Police said it was not clear if the weapon was ever pointed at anyone.
Both vehicles exited I-81 at Exit 1. When the man arrived at the scene of the accident, he told police about the incident, which led to a traffic stop involving Barrett. After being stopped by police, Barrett was found to be in possession of a 9 mm pistol.
Barrett was charged with brandishing a firearm. He was later released from the Bristol (Va.) Jail on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Bristol General District Court on Oct. 13.
