The Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Programs and CenturyLink have given Gary Tucker the 2011 Distinguished Leadership Award.
Tucker is the senior vice president of government and business relations for Eastman Credit Union. Sponsored by CenturyLink, the Kingsport Leadership Program’s Distinguished Leadership Award is presented annually to a program alumnus who has exhibited outstanding leadership to the community.
A native of Jenkins, Ky., Tucker’s love for service started at a young age with his church youth group and high school Kiwanis-sponsored “Key Club” before serving his country in the United States Air Force in Clovis, N.M. Before moving to Kingsport, Tucker received his MBA at the University of Kentucky and started a career in sales and marketing for Ford Motor Company in Cincinnati.

He began his service through Wellmont Foundation fundraising activities, in support of a variety of patient wellness causes. Tucker has also served as past president of The Rotary Club of Kingsport — Sunrise, Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce board member and committee chairman, overseeing Leadership Kingsport, “S.H.O.U.T.!” Youth Leadership and “Encore” Programs, as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, a youth baseball and basketball coach, a member of Interfaith Hospitality Network and a number of other community service activities.
Tucker graduated from Leadership Kingsport in 2002. He currently is chief volunteer officer and board president of The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kingsport, vice-chairman of United Way of Greater Kingsport’s leadership development committee and Kingsport Community Foundation board member.
