Johnson City Area United Way officially kicks off its fundraising campaign today. Continuing tough economic times have led United Way officials to scale back its goal to $1.725 million this year. Agencies served by the United Way are going to need every penny they can get.
That’s because charitable donations have not been able to keep with all the requests for assistance.
Since you are reading this editorial, it’s a good bet you already have or will soon make a generous donation to United Way. That’s because we know regular readers of this page are people who care about their community.
It’s civic-minded people like you who are also among the first to contribute to the Johnson City Press Christmas Box and other worthy causes. Although you already do more than your part, we need you to do just a little more. We are asking that you convince a family member, friend or co-worker to follow your lead and send a check to United Way of Washington County, P.O. Box 4039, Johnson City, TN 37602-4039.
Tell them of all the good that comes from United Way and how even a small donation can help provide adult day care services, after-school tutoring and hot meals for the elderly.
