August 25th, 2011 11:03 am by Staff Report

NEWPORT — Four men accused of setting fires to nine structures in two counties will serve jail time after pleading guilty to arson charges, authorities said.

Jacob A. Thigpen, 19, of Cosby; Jacob D. Gillespie, 20, of Cosby; and Isaac D. Brandon, 19, of Hartford were indicted by a grand jury in June on two counts of arson and burglary in connection to the incidents which took place earlier this year in Sevier and Cocke counties.

Those three men pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson for each of their respective nine cases and were sentenced to one year in jail to be followed by five years of probation, said 4th District Assistant State Attorney General Brownlow Marsh.
